Learning through questions: how Uweza courses are built
Uweza courses start from a real question and cross subject lines to answer it. Here is how a course, its lessons and its final project fit together.

Learning through questions
Most courses begin with a syllabus. Uweza courses begin with a question worth answering — Why is Africa "poor"? Why do the models powering the apps you use barely understand the language you actually think in? — and draw on whatever subjects the answer genuinely needs: economics, mathematics, history, computing, NLP, linguistics, probability.
How a course is put together
- A Course holds the questions asked across it, united by one connective idea.
- Each Question is taught through Lessons, with checks between them so understanding is confirmed before moving on.
- Each Question ends in a single Project — a workspace where the scholar builds something real that answers it.
Who it is for
Scholars. You learn why a thing matters before you learn how to calculate it. A question you care about gives the mathematics somewhere to go.
Teachers and authors. You build courses in the Uweza studio: create the course, attach its questions, write lessons, and assemble the project workspace. New content does not need an engineer — only a genuinely new kind of simulation does.
Parents. You can see the route your child is taking through a question and where they are on it.
Honest note
The first course, Why Is Africa "Poor"?, is authored. Where lessons are still being written, the platform says so plainly rather than showing an empty page. Courses take time and considerable research to be authored, but we have made a commitment to never drift from an African-centric education. Students learning on Uweza aren't treated like empty containers that require filling; they are Africans with unique experiences that inform who they are, and we have made Uweza Education the place where they can demonstrate their personhood. As a student, you write your own story even as you learn from first principles.
